Once a month I read the Time Magazine. Last September’s edition, in the entertainment segment, they mentioned a memoir called “Who is Michael Ovitz?”.
Yes… I had the same question: Who is Michael Ovitz?
Michael Ovitz, is an iconic entrepreneur. He founded one of the leading entertainment agencies of the world and in this biography Michael takes us through the process of how he was able to do it.
Being born into a poor family, Michael, was a hardworking and rigorous man. Later in life he lacked some education and information that could help him with talking, signing and advising his clients. This inspiring man, making millions every year realised he had to teach himself classical art (paintings, sculpture, etc…) among other things.
This helped me figure out a challenge that I was facing. Being in Arts and Humanities, I naturally have less contact with technology and math. Recently, I realized that this was slowing me down and affecting other parts of my life.
Reading his autobiography, motivated me to start learning something new:Marketing. A completely foreign language to me. Now, and not saying I am a pro, I discovered a new tool that is part of me!
As is common practise, we go through life specializing every day a bit more in a specific area. That is what happens when we go to university and from then on out. It is natural to focus on your area and forget and get ignorant about things like literature, math or finance.
“Successful people ask questions. They seek new teachers. They’re always learning.” – Robert Kiyosaki.
How can you do it?
- Learn a new skill;
- Read a book;
- Do an inventory of things you would like to learn and as well as which friends can help you learn them.
Remember, we cannot be great at everything. Master your talent, but never stop learning new things. Improve, Improve , Improve. Never stop being a student.
